Asthma is a respiratory diseases that is caused when the airway is swollen, narrowed and is blocked by excess mucus making it difficult to breathe.
Symptoms of Asthma
- Difficulty in breathing
- Persistent cough especially at night
- Chest tightness
- Wheezing( whistling sound when exhaling)
Causes of asthma
- Genetics: If the family has a history of asthma or allergies disease, they is high risk some of it generation having asthma
- Allergies:Asthma is more likely on people who have allergies like rhinitis( hay fever)
- Environmental factors: Exposure to environmental irritants including exposure to chemicals, indoor and outdoor pollution and dust mites tend to increase the risk of developing asthma
- Overweight: Adult and children who are overweight tend to develop asthma.
Asthma can be triggered by some factors
- Exercise
- Damp place
- Strong smell or chemical
- Air pollution
- Infection such as cold
Treatment of Asthma
Asthma does not have cure but can be managed through medication, Lifestyle changes and avoiding asthma triggers. The most common type of asthma medication is the inhaler. It is a portable device that delivers medication directly into the lungs.
People with asthma may use the inhaler everyday depending on the frequency of the symptoms.
Your health care provider may also provide you with some medication that can be swallowed.
